Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

The main theme of Psalm 3 KJV Commentary is the enemy thinks that we are finished, but Our Lord bless us in front of our adversaries. Though they are many but still our LORD will defeat them all.

This is the Psalm written by King David when he fled from Absalom his son.Psalm 3 shows us how to be confident in the time of troubles.

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.Psalm 3:1 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

Here King David asking Lord, how are they increased that trouble me.

He says to the Lord, many are they that rise up against me. Fear came in King David’s mind.So he is asking for help from the Lord.

In King David’s life, many enemies rise against him and he was surprised to see them because he did no wrong to them.

Many times in our life we face the situation where we also ask God how our challenges are increased.

How the problems are getting worse, how adverse condition is rising.

Even if so many enemies stand against us we should not fear because LORD is help in trouble time.

Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.                                    Psalm 3:2 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

Here in this verse, King David’s enemy is saying There is no help for him in God. But at the end of the verse, Selah is used.

What is the meaning of Selah? It means to praise or reflect upon what has been said.

King David’s enemy thought that God has left him. But that was not true.

Looking at our situation our enemies laugh and they say God has left him and now God is not helping him to come out of this situation.

Though the enemy is saying that there is no help for him in God we don’t have to trust the enemy.

We have to calm down and think about how big is our God and how He will deliver us from the given situation.

But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. Psalm 3:3 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

Here in this verse promise is given by the Lord to King David, that LORD is his shield and glory. LORD lifts the head of his anointed servant.

LORD is a shield to his people. LORD protects them He is Shepherd to his sheep.

LORD is his glory and those who trust His plans LORD gives glory to them.

But our enemies forget that our LORD is our shield in all the situations of our life.

Our God is bigger than our problems. Whatever challenges we are facing today our God can turn them into the blessings.

All of our adversaries will look at us and they all will be amazed to see us coming out of that situation and getting blessings from God.

LORD is our honor he lifts our head in front of our enemies.

I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. Psalm 3:4 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

King David cried unto the LORD and LORD heard him out of his holy hill.

What is the holy hill? It is holy mountain Zion. It represents heaven where LORD dwells.

As King David cried the same way we should cry before LORD in the time of trouble and then LORD will deliver us.

During the time of trouble, we have to cry before LORD. When we come near to God and ask for help, He is ready to help us in all the situations of our life.

LORD will hear our voice and he will listen to our cry.
The seats in Holy mountain which is the holy hill of Zion.

LORD dwells in heaven and from there He gives answers to our prayers.

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.Psalm 3:5 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

Here King David is relaxed because he knows that even if he sleeps LORD will sustain him and protect him. He will awake from sleep.

As King David was relaxed the same way we should be relaxed because LORD is our protector. He is our give us angels to protect us.

If you are worried about any situation and you think the problem is getting severe and you can not come out of it.

I want to say you just go on your bed and relax and sleep.
Give your worries, problems, challenges into the hand of our LORD and he will deal with all of them.

Sleeping and relaxing during the time of trouble shows the utmost trust in the power of God

During such time ask for peace from God only because of peace we can sleep and relax.

We are safe and secure under the mighty hand of our God.  Here the verse says that we are awaked, this means even in the negative situation we will awake are rise up against.

One testimony I want to give. I know one lady her house was going to be get demolished by a certain group of people.

I said pray and God will help you, but she was in so much pain she said she is not in condition to pray.

Then I said go to your bed and sleep and handover your problem into the hand of GOD.

She did that and guess what, our LORD has blessed her not only with one house but she received two houses. Praise God.

I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. Psalm 3:6 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

Though the enemies are ten thousand and they set themselves against him still he will not be afraid.

Even ten thousand enemies come against us we should not fear because LORD will smite them and they all will be defeated.

We don’t have to be afraid even if the enemies are in ten thousand in number.

In Psalm 91:7 it is mentioned that thousand will fall before us and ten thousand will fall at our right hand. Such a powerful LORD we serve.

Though our problems are ten thousand in number still we can overcome the problems and come out of it safely.

Though challenges come round about us still we don’t have to fear at all, because we can demolish the challenges by the power of God.

We don’t have to magnify our problems, instead, we have to magnify the power of our LORD.

Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.Psalm 3:7 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

Here King David asking LORD to Arise and to save him from his enemies.

LORD has smitten all his enemies upon the cheekbone. LORD has broken the teeth of the ungodly people.

LORD will Arise and He will save us. Teeth of the ungodly people will be broken.

Arise is mentioned at the beginning of this verse. We have to pray to God that He should Arise and take control of our Life.

LORD is always ready to take control of our life but are we ready to hand over our lives and submit ourselves to the plans of the LORD that is the big question.

LORD will break the teeth of the ungodly people means he will shatter the plans of the ungodly people.

Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.Psalm 3:8 KJV Commentary

Psalm 3 KJV Commentary
Psalm 3 KJV Commentary

Salvation belongs to our LORD and His blessings are upon his people.

What is the meaning of salvation? It means preservation or deliverance from sin.

LORD will show us mercy and He will forgive us from all our sins.
Those who accept Jesus Christ are redeemed by the blood of Jesus. Salvation belongs to such people.

Because of the stripes of Jesus Christ, we are healed.
For the church blessings follows and the cup of blessing overflows.

Blessing is the birthright of God’s children and they will receive it in abundance.

Prayer:

Dear LORD though my enemy think that you are done with me, but it is not true. You always there to help me and guide me.

Even ten thousands of enemy come against me still you can save me from them. You are my shield and my glory

Help me to grow in faith and lead me in the path of righteousness. In Jesus name I Pray. Amen.

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

The main them of Psalm 2 KJV Commentary is nations conspire against God, but God’s people rule securely. This is a Psalm talks about the Royal coronation of LORD’s King.

From verse  1 to 3 we see futile rebellion of the nations. Here in these verses nations speaks.

From verses 4 to 6 we see the reaction of the LORD. Here in these verses, LORD speaks.

From verses 7 to 9 we see the powerful rule of God’s kingdom. Here in these verses, Son speaks.

From verses 10 to 12 we see Lessons to be learned. Here in this verses, Holy Spirit speaks.

In this chapter King David rejoice because though his enemies rage against God yet they don’t get success and LORD will all King David to reign forever and He will bless his kingdom.

King David is LORD’S chosen king.  King David Kingdom is the representation of Jesus Christ Kingdom which He will rule eternity.

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?   Psalm 2:1 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

Who is heathen? Heathen is a person who does not belong to any known religion.
Heathen plans to rebel against LORD. Heathen is in tumult condition.

Here the author asks the question of why do the heathen rage because he is surprised at there reaction and ahead he writes the people imagine a vain thing

Their imaginations will go in vain, they are useless in the eyes of LORD

We see the rebellion of the people against God in the Bible many times.

The main example we can take is from the Babylon where people gathered themselves under the rulership of Nimrod. But God with his wisdom scatter them.

What is the meaning of rage? Rage means violent and anger which is not able to control.
Why do people imagine a vain thing?

Because they don’t believe that there is a God there hope is lost. Same way people meditate upon vain things.

They don’t have any benefit in raging against God.
Nations are in turmoil against God and they devise a vain and a hopeless plot. The nations are in tumultuous agitation.Their imaginations are vanity.

Heathen imagine empty schemes, this will go in vain. Heathen makes foolish plans and their plans will not flourish.

Scripture says nations rant and peoples rave uselessly they grumble in vain.

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Psalm 2:2 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

Here kings of the earth gather together and they discuss how they can destroy the anointed one.

The kings of the earth revolt against LORD. They take violent action against the Kingdom of God. Leaders of the nations united against God.

What is the meaning of counsel? It means advising on the issue. People gather together against the LORD

Even if the entire army of the world gathers together to fight against LORD it will be of no use, because LORD will smite them with the breath of his nostrils.

There is no point in gathering together as kings of the earth set themselves.

Rulers take counsel together, but there plans will not be established. They conspire together.

This all they are planning against the LORD, and his anointed.

Here people take counsel against LORD and his anointed servants because without unity they can’t harm the anointed one.

Scripture says touch not my anointed and do no harm to my prophets. (Psalm 105:15)
Kings of the earth take a hopeless stand and they gather together against God’s people.

  Psalm 91 Book

Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. Psalm 2:3 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

They don’t want to obey the LORD and they want to set there own law and follow there own percepts.

People think that the love of the LORD is a bondage to them. LORD never binds anyone instead he give freewill to everyone.

They want to break down the fetters. They think they are slaves to LORD. They want to get free from the LORD. They want to burst their bands asunder

They want to break their bands asunder because they are disobedient people. They say let us cast away their cords from us because they want to live with there own choice and not as per the will of God.

Jesus said in Matthew 11: 30 his yoke is not heavy and it is very light because it is the yoke of love which protects us from the entire evil one.

They say in let us get release from the control of God.

They want to tear off the ropes and break the chains.

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.                             Psalm 2:4 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

LORD who seats in heaven will laugh because the plans of the kings of the earth are so childish. LORD will make fun of those people.

We can see the LORD reaction in the given verse. LORD laughs at them because their plans are without wisdom
.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh, who seats in heaven? LORD seats in heaven and he will laugh at them.

The LORD shall have them in derision because their plans are foolish.

LORD must be feeling pity for these people as they don’t know what power He has.

What is the meaning of derision? Derision means mockery.

LORD shall have them in derision. LORD who seats in heaven scoffs at them.  LORD in supreme contempt mocks at them.

Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.                                Psalm 2:5 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

LORD will speak to them in anger and He will annoy them and they will get frustrated.

What is the meaning of wrath? It means extreme anger. If LORD is speaking to the people in extreme anger then people will perish.

Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, because his anger is kindled against them.

He is going to vex them in his sore displeasure.

What is the meaning of the vex? It means to frustrate someone or annoy.

LORD will speak to them in His profound wrath. LORD will terrify them with His displeasure.

LORD will rebuke them in His anger. LORD gives warning to these people, and He frightens them with His displeasure.

LORD in his deep wrath confounds them.  LORD will trouble them in his displeasure and in fury.

Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. Psalm 2:6 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

LORD has set His King upon the holy hill of zion to rule the whole world.

What is the holy hill of Zion? It represents heaven. It represents where LORD dwells.

LORD has installed and placed his King upon the holy hill of Zion

Holy hill of Zion is the sacred hill of the LORD.

LORD has consecrated His king upon the holy hill of Zion

LORD will preach his Commandments from the Holy Hill Of Zion

LORD is going to establish His Kingdom at the holy hill of Zion.

I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Psalm 2:7 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

LORD has spoken to King David that he will rule all the nations because LORD has made him his son. LORD has begotten King David.

Whatever the LORD has said unto me I will announce in front of all the people.

Kings says he is going to announce what the LORD has said to him.

The author says I will declare the decree, because he is so sure that LORD has given promise to him.

He says – LORD hath said unto me, (LORD said to him) Thou art my Son. Those who do the will of God they all are His Son.

This day have I begotten thee. This day LORD has brought him into existence. Today is his birthday.

What is the meaning of decree? Decree means order given by the supreme authority under the law. For eg., King gives decree to the nation.

What is the meaning of begotten? It means bring someone into existence.

Zion is the holy mountain where God’s people will dwell forever.

Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Psalm 2:8 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

Here in this verse, LORD is asking king David to ask and He will give all the heathen of the world to his inheritance and all the uttermost parts of the earth for his possession.

Ask of me - Jesus said in Matthew 7:7 we have to ask, and when we ask LORD give us the desire of our heart.

I shall give thee - Same way LORD will give us heathen people to our inheritance. Also, he will give us all the earth to reign under His dominion.

Heathen for thine inheritance - LORD has promised to His people that He will give wicked people as inheritance and uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

 Psalm 91 Book

Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Psalm 2:9 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

This is a blessing that LORD has given to King David. LORD has given rod of iron in his hand to thrash his enemy into pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron - Rod of Iron represents the power of the LORD which He has given to His people to defeat the enemy.

LORD will crush His enemy with the scepter of Iron. He will break them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Why LORD is giving an example of Potter’s vessel? If a Potter’s vessel is not made perfect in size or shape then potter smash that vessel and make it in powder to remold it for further use.

Godly people will utterly shatter the wicked one as a potter’s vessel.

Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Psalm 2:10 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

Be wise now, therefore - Here LORD is asking King David to be wise and be instructed because he has to rule all the earth.

Be instructed - Wise people are those people who have wisdom given by the LORD

Wisdom is given to do a special task and to achieve great things in life.

Ye judges of the earth - Wise people should take instructions and warnings from the LORD.

Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Psalm 2:11 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

Serve the LORD with fear - One should serve the LORD with fear because he is Almighty

God and one should rejoice in trembling because LORD is the King of the Universe.
With trembling we have to rejoice.

Those people who fear LORD they receive wisdom. Because fear of the LORD is the source of wisdom.

We should serve the LORD with reverent and worship Him in fear.

LORD’S anger ignites in an instant.

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Psalm 2:12 KJV Commentary

Psalm 2 KJV Commentary
Psalm 2 KJV Commentary

Kiss the Son - One should be faithful to the son otherwise he will be angry and if he fails to do that he will perish. In other word pay homage to the son in purity.

Lest he be angry - If you fail to pay tribute to the Son then you will perish for His wrath will be kindled.

His anger blazes suddenly.  People should show that they are loyal to the Son.

People who trust the plans of the LORD they are blessed people. Let us embrace the discipline to serve the LORD.

Blessed are all they that put their trust in him - People of God are fortunate people, people of God are prosperous people and they receive favor from God.

Blessed are the people who seek refuge and those who put their trust in Him. Those people who go to son for protection they will be blessed.

LORD has promised his people that those who trust Him will be blessed.  Happy are they that put their trust in Him.

Prayer:

Dear LORD thank you for making us your Son. Thank you for giving us heathen as our inheritance and earth as our possession

Thank you for giving us a place in the Holy Hill of Zion.  Give us wisdom to serve you, LORD.  In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
